Being a local from Adelaide and having watched many races live at the Clipsal 500, Paul  was very wary of the dirtiness and lack of grip on the street circuit. Bearing that in mind whilst observing the track and bedding in new brake pads, he slowly built his CPA Australia Dallara up to speed during the first half of the practice session.

Unfortunately, after 8 practice laps Paul attempted to let a quicker car through, but ran a wheel up on the right hand curb causing his car to instantly spin, and crashed him heavily into the concrete wall. Damage was caused to front and rear wings as well as suspension damage to the front and rear of the car.

Due to his accident in the morning's practice session, Paul was unable to take part in the first qualifying. The team worked feverishly to get the car repaired for the second qualifying on Saturday morning. Paul was able to complete only a warm up lap before his rear wing collapsed, due to Friday's incident and caused the car to veer across the track at  high speed.

After assistance from other F3 competitors, the CPA Australia team were able to build a spare rear wing and Paul was able to start from the back of the grid for Race 1.

Paul got a fantastic start and after the first lap had moved from 20th position to 13th. He had only completed a handful of laps before the actual race and was therefore learning the track while mixing it with some of the very quick and more experienced drivers. He took the CPA Australia Dallara to as high as 11th, but at the checkered flag Paul finished 13th overall, and 3rd in Level 2.

After Race 1 it was time to prepare for Race 2. However, whilst making changes, the team noticed a small crack in the center of the rear brake disc. An attempt to weld it failed and it was decided that although it was unlikely to break during the race, it was too risky and would endanger Paul, the car and of course other drivers. As no spare could be found, Paul was forced to the sidelines for Race 2.

A disaster weekend for CPA Australia Motorsport in front of their home crowd, but Paul is already very optimistic about his chances in Tasmania in April.
