TRENGOVE PREPARES FOR THE ISLAND

Round 3 of the Australian Formula 4000 Driver’s Championship heads to Phillip Island next week, the fastest race circuit on the calendar.

After Paul Trengove’s round win at Winton on his debut, he is excited about his chances at the next event. “There’s a few rumours about some new talent coming into F4000 for Phillip Island. We have a strong package though and really it’s about me still learning the car and finding speed, having only raced in it once before.”

In Round 2 the CPA Australia team struggled early on, with an accelerator cable breaking in both second practice and qualifying. In Race 1, Trengove had to start near the rear of the field, but managed to finish in second position. In Race 2 Paul led for most of the race, but after running wide, was overtaken by Kiwi, Nelson Hartley. “We had a roller-coaster weekend at Winton. I had limited time on the track due to mechanical failure and during the race my endurance was also put to the test.”

Sitting 4th in the Championship after missing Round 1, due to lack of budget, Trengove is looking forward to more time on the track to help the team with the car set up. “The F4000 cars are flat through turn 1 at approximately 250kph. If I want to be competitive here, it’s crucial I provide the team with some good feedback for the car set up. Hopefully we can have two strong results and move up the Championship Table.”
