Paul Gears up for the Clipsal 500

Since winning the Australian Formula 3 National Series last year in Level 2, Paul Trengove has searched tirelessly for backing to help him fund his quest to win the Australian Formula 3 Championship in 2003.

Unfortunately finding support from Corporate Australia has been unsuccessful and Trengove finds himself without a car and team for the 2003 season.

However, in the hope that he may find something soon, Paul will lease a car from Melbourne based Scud Racing this weekend at the Clipsal 500 in his home town of Adelaide.

“Its been very disappointing that I have been unable to find a company or investor to support me for next year. But I don’t want to give up just yet, so my only option is to lease a car out of my own for the first round”.   CPA Australia, Paul’s sponsor from 2002, are very keen to support the team again, but on a Co-sponsorship basis. The Professional Association with over 97,000 members are hoping Paul has a second sponsor by Round 2 in Tasmania.

This weekend though, Paul will drive the bright green coloured 1996 Dallara and will run with his own number, 34.

“I haven’t done a lap in a car since winning the Level 2 Title at the Indy track, so its going to take me a little while to get my eye in. I’ve never driven a Level 1 car either, so I’ll be learning the car on the concrete enclosed circuit of Adelaide. It’s going to be a real challenge”.

Paul is hoping for a top 10 finish, but refuses to aim too high, so early in the season.
