TRENGOVE SELECTED FOR AIS CHAMPIONS CAMP
Paul Trengove, who finished equal 2nd in the Australian Drivers’ Championship this year, has been lucky enough to be selected to attend the Australian Institute of Sport at the camp of Champions later in January 2004. In recognition of his outstanding performance in his debut year in Formula 4000, CAMS has invited Paul to learn from the country’s best athletes and coaches. Topics covered include psychological training, fitness, recovery, diet and many other important aspects that a race-car driver at the elite level requires. “It is a great opportunity to be invited to attend this training camp and it really does cap off what has been a great year for myself and the CPA Australia Team. We were not expecting to be as successful this year as we were in 2003 and we really considered it our learning year.” After missing the first round of the Australian Drivers’ championship due to lack of funding, Trengove won the round on debut, at Winton Raceway in Victoria and followed this up with another 4 consecutive podium finishes. The final Round at Eastern Creek saw Paul finish 3rd on the day behind Jonny Reid and the Gold Star Winner Daniel Gaunt and left Paul with equal 2nd in the Championship. “It was pretty disappointing not to be right on the pace at Eastern Creek. It was the first time I’d raced there and being hit in the final race finished any chance I had to win at the end. But our team certainly showed it has the pace and consistency to win a Championship.” CAMS have invited other Champions of the various categories to the camp including V8 Supercar champion Marcus Ambrose, Formula Ford Champion Neil McFadyen, Nations Cup Winner Paul Stokell and many others.
